Optional Tours

Prince William Sound Sightseeing Glacier Cruise – Travel by motor coach along Turnagain Arm to Portage and through the Whittier Tunnel, the longest tunnel in North America. Tunnel through the Chugach Mountain Range and emerge in the small town of Whittier, the gateway to Prince William Sound. Board a high-speed catamaran for a spectacular sightseeing glacier cruise. Travel over 135 miles into Prince William Sound where you will see 26 “named” glaciers and many more unnamed. We get face to face with these towering masses of ice, so close you can “hear” the glaciers move and gaze at their brilliant blue hues. You will have the opportunity to view sea otters, seals, porpoises, sea lions and whales during the cruise. The most common whales in Prince William Sound are Humpback and the Orca or Killer Whale. You may also spot wildlife such as bear or mountain goats. Of the 200 species of bird inhabiting this area, Bald Eagles are very prominent. This cruise will travel to Barry Arm to view Cascade, Barry and Cox Glaciers as well as into the Harriman Fjords and on to Surprise Glacier. The calm protected waters of Prince William Sound offer a rare no seasickness policy. Return to Whittier where a motor coach will be standing by for the return trip to Anchorage. Lunch is included on the cruise.  Seats are limited and tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis until sold out. Ticket are non-refundable.

Happy Trails Kennel TourTravel for 1 ½ hour by motor coach to the small town of Big Lake, Alaska where Iditarod champion Martin Buser and  his Happy Trail kennel is located.  Arriving at the kennel you will be greeted by 30 – 60 friendly, high energy sled dogs that love to be petted.  A 20-minuted narrated video will introduce you to the history of Iditarod and Martin Buser will tell anecdotal stories from his 28 years of racing.  The next stop of the tour is the amphitheater where the campfire and wall tent set the stage for description of life on the trails as a musher.  The presentation includes a look at how the real athletes – the dogs – are cared for and outfitted for the elements.  Puppy time is next!  Now you get the opportunity to meet future Iditarod champions.  The grand finale of the tour is a dog sled demonstration where 5 lucky dogs get harnessed to the gang-line as the uproar of barks of “take me” clearly shows what the sled dogs love the most- running! Before boarding the motor coach back to Anchorage you will have the opportunity to wander through the kennel, take pictures and visit the gift shop housed in Alaska’s largest dog house. Seats are limited and tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis until sold out. Tickets are non-refundable.
