CEC and ICMC Student Meritorious Paper Award

It has been a long standing practice of the Cryogenic Engineering Conference (CEC) and the International Cryogenic Materials Conference (ICMC) to present awards to students for outstanding work.  The Student Meritorious Paper Award(s) will be presented at the conference.  Each winner will receive a printed certificate and a monetary award.

The 2009 CEC Student Meritorious Paper Award is presented to:
"The Magnetohydrodynamic Response of Liquid Oxygen" by
J.C. Boulware, H. Ban, S. Jensen, S. Wassom
The student author to whom the award is presented is Jeffrey C. Boulware of the Utah State University.

The 2009 ICMC Student Meritorious Paper Award is presented to:
"Fine Grained Nb for Internal Tin Nb3Sn Conductors" by
S. Balachandran, R.E. Barber, R.B. Griffin, Y. Huang, H. Miao, J.A. Parrell, S. Hong, K.T. Hartwig
The student author to whom the award is presented is Shreyas Balachandran of the Texas A&M University.

Selection will be competitive and based upon:

  1. Submission of an acceptable manuscript per the CEC/ICMC format.
  2. Letters of recommendation (at least two) from the student's thesis advisor, dean, and/or other academic advisor.  The letters must include:
    • a summary of the student's capabilities and accomplishments,
    • an assessment of the amount of the presented work that is actually attributable to the student,
    • a personal evaluation of the studentʼs potential as a professional cryogenic engineer/scientist.

Award winners must personally present their paper at the conference to receive the cash award and certificate.

The deadline for Student Meritorious Paper submissions for the ICMC is May 15, 2009.

The deadline for Student Meritorious Paper submissions for the CEC has been extended to May 22, 2009.
